Jane Eifler lives and works in Houston, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, with a Bachelor of Arts degree; in 2008, she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in paining from the University of Houston.
Her work begins with the construction of a language of abstract forms using the images that inhabit her social environment, a world informed by her personal encounters with popular culture. These forms draw from the history of abstraction: biomorphic, geometric, decorative and illusionistic, but assume human attributes as they crowd, press, fly and hide. Are they anxious, cooperative, or simply surveying their space? She sorts, stacks, stretches, and otherwise manipulates these forms, and finally knita them into a system suggesting a pattern, an interaction, and/or a narrative. This system forms the matrix that anchors her painting: an ordering of complexity. |
